Recently, on Father’s Day I bought 40 bacon rolls from Greggs the bakers. When I put my order in, the
girls behind the counter did look at me somewhat quizzically when I simply said
that I was hungry!
I went on explain that I was going to hand them out as
a special treat for dad’s. They thought it was a good thing to do and offered
to put in a few more rolls on the house. My treat for dads got Tony thinking:
why not do your Big Breakfast with a difference? How about a big-hearted give
away to show something of the outrageously generous gift of Jesus? A small gift
of a breakfast to remind people of the best gift this world has been graced with. So, this 22nd September we want to challenge you. Instead of
your church men’s group inviting men to breakfast how about getting ‘out there’
amongst men in your community? I’m not suggesting that you should offer bowls
of porridge to every bloke who happens to walk his dog on Saturday morning, but
rather offering something like hot bacon rolls out and about in your local town
or city centre, perhaps even outside your church building, in fact wherever you
may find blokes!
As you go out and
about offering a free breakfast in a roll (remember, not everyone’s going to
see a bacon roll as good news) see what happens. I guarantee that some people
will ask you ‘why.’ As they do you may have an event or service to invite
people to or you may simple want to share something of the good news with
What if between
all of us 100 groups offered a free breakfast in a roll to 50 people? Together
on this years big breakfast we would feed the 5000! Go on- I dare you!
